Adobe Flash goes the weasel

Today is another day where my loathing for the Adobe Flash player grows. (Flash it’s self isn’t the issue.)

The reason I find this free application so frustrating is its constant updating issues – which work on some browsers but not on others.

5 separate dialogue boxes to install it on one of the 3 browser systems we use (don’t ask it’s a tech thing). Now imagine that as an IT manager that you needed to do that across the whole of your system.

It’s no wonder that businesses prefer to block the largest growing medium of communication (estimated figures put live video watched online up by over 600% by this time next year) – most can’t see it unless they are at home!

Adobe Flash Player pimps it’s self as THE way to watch video (via You Tube et al). But there are alternatives – like JWL LongTail Player – the player we use for our web site and review site. After many issues with Adobe Flash with our large blue chip clients we found that 90% of them could see the flash videos through the Longtail Player.

So if you’re struggling with seeing video this week – mostly update your Adobe Flash Player.

If you want more of your clients to see your videos and flash animations please look into the alternatives like LongTail.
