Risky Business: What to do when a film crew visits you.
This is our fourth year filming nominees for the MEN Business of the Year Awards. Being a health and safety geek, I am always interested in seeing how business’ health and safety departments cope with visiting film crews. To make life easier for the crew and the business Little Orchard visited we travelled light with minimum crew and kit.
Visiting this year top 16 business in Greater Manchester filled me with dread! Did I really have to fill out 16 work permits and method/risk assessments? Gaaahhhh!
To my suprise things were not as bad as it seemed, it seems that everyone has got used to health and safety and visitors. Paths were cleared, hi-vis vest provided, badges were given and we even had hosts with us. We felt really welcomed and safe at all the business, even when filming with forklift trucks whizzing by. I was even happier when I received a health and safety pamphlet, with instructions on how to walk up and down the stairs. Yes, with diagrams.
When a film crew (like us) visits you, always check what kit and how many crew members will be coming. Remember to ask for a method and risk assessment (if you need one) and for a public liability certificate from the production company.
Want to be like one of the top 16 business in Manchester? Then why not train your visitors and employees with a health and safety video. Little Orchard can create a bespoke training DVD to fit your business needs from forklifting to construction work, from day to day offices we can make a video that keeps you and your colleagues safe!
