Here’s a free secret to great video in your social media campaign: Content. Content. Content.
Only good content gets shared, which is what the social media network is all about, whether you’re a business or an individual.
So what’s ‘good content’ I hear you ask. Having been to SAScon and other socal media seminars recently, as well as being a copywriter for the last 15 years, I think that these basic hints and tips make for a good foundation:
1. Educate – tell people something they don’t know (but want to know)
2. Entertain – give people a bit of a giggle (sick and twisted belly laughs are best kept for late night cable channels)
3. Easy – give your viewer a tool to make their day/work/life easier (a free hint or tip for example)
4. Real – always be authentic. In business 2 business buyers need to trust what they see
5. Regular – Twitter, blogs, Facebook etc all thrive on regular updates, 2 or 3 times a week is good enough. Everyday can get boring
6. Relax – the soft sell far outweighs the double glazing salesman shouty “BUY NOW” technique
7. Respond – if someone tweets you or connects to you, repond quickly and keep up the conversation. It’ll likely take 7 or 8 conversations to reach conversion
8. Honest – be open. The digital world is not about megapixels or upload speeds. It’s about open source content. Stuff about you is out there for everyone and they will find you out if you’re not what you say you are
9. Value – only put a video out into your social media network or website if there’s value in it for your viewers. And, let’s face it, an ROI for you. The average cost of a professionally shot 2 min web video is £2000 so it has to mean something to your potential clients and target market – they have to value you, your product or service and, most importantly, value your knowledge and expertise behind it.
The value people put on you as an expert in your field is directly linked to your brand so content; deep, juicy, mouthwateringly refreshing content is how those people are going to value you – and therefore pay full ticket price!
