Why video training supports clients

People often say it’s more of a ‘who you know, not, what you know’ in life and after graduating 3 years ago from a degree in TV and Radio Production; the media industry has proven not to be an easy one to get into. However, I feel I’ve finally started to make a mark, with the help of recommendations and working hard to prove myself, over the past year I’ve gained some great experience.

I’m a freelance Production Assistant but have always had my sights and interests set on going down the Researcher route, and decided that in order to follow this path I needed to boost my skills and refresh my knowledge to work alongside the people I’ve come to know.

Little Orchard are always keen to support personal development (they encouraged me to take my driving lessons –I passed last week!) so with their wise words and putting my aspiring Researcher skills into practice, I came across a funding opportunity for media courses from North West Vision and Media. In 4 weeks time I’ll be heading to the big smoke, stepping out of White City tube station and across the road to attend a Production Researcher course at the BBC Academy!!!

What benefits will this give to the job role you may ask? Well, with technology and media practices advancing so rapidly it’s important to keep updated, expand on the knowledge you have and be able to offer people a higher skill level and wider expertise within the role.

On completion, I’ll have the skills to develop stories, source contributors and archive research, rights and clearances, record keeping and interview skills – pretty much the basics of a Researcher; it’s up to me to be a good one!

If there’s an idea you have for filming, unsure of copyright issues, need to source contributors for interviews but not sure who the best would be, then in 4 weeks time when I climb off the train, certificate in hand, get in touch as fresh knowledge is the best knowledge!
